Twin Girls Bedroom : Mix and Match

My twin 3.5 year olds are two very different little girls, hence the challenge to create a room for them that matches two sets of bedding. Thankfully Target carries quite a few comforters in coordinating colors!

The letter are paper mache letters from Joann's. I decoupaged them with several different scrapbook papers in matching colors and patterns. The shelf is from Ikea. All bedding, pillows and painting are from Target.

This valance was made using the pillow shams from the comforters sets. Knowing I would never actually use them, I cut them up into strips and put them on a curtain rod. No sewing required, as the pillow shams already had a stitch that allowed just enough space for the rod!

We removed the bifold door from the closet to make the room a little less cramped and the girls use the bottom half of the closet for play and toy storage. Lastly, I pained the mural to match both sets of bedding. It was a very long project but well worth it! The girls love it.

Lil' LJ is more than just apparel!

We're (I'm) expanding into stationary, wall art and gifts! I recently came across an amazing website, Minted.com. The website sells everything from Birth Announcements to Wedding Invitations and as of April, they will also be selling wall art. Most, if not all of the art can be personalized, which is amazing! The website calls upon the talents of some amazing designers to constantly have fresh, exciting, modern designs.

A few weeks ago, I was honored with an editor pick for this submission:

As a result, it will be up for sale in April!

This week, I completed the last of my 9 submissions for the current Children's Art Challenge. I would love for you to go on and vote for my work to be sold on Minted, and for you to check out everything they have! I hope to follow up this post with a few designs from other designers that I am in LOVE with!

A portion of the sales from these pieces will go toward Every Mother Counts, a charity organization that Christy Turlington is part of. Christy is actually going to be a guest judge! Every Mother Counts is an advocacy and mobilization campaign to increase education and support for maternal and child health. A cause very close to my heart.

Here they are with links to the voting. Voting ends 3/12/12. Thanks again!

Bunny Love : DIY Easter Chocolate Craft

Last year, the girls and I made these super cute, fun, easy and cheap bunnies for my husband for Easter. I thought I'd share just how easy they are!

Here's what you'll need for 2 bunnies:
• A few sheets of white paper
• 2 candy bars
• scissors
• glue stick
• pink paint color swatches
• clear tape
• a thin sharpie
• googly eyes
• pom poms (pink)
• a pencil

First, wrap each of the bars like a present with the white paper and tape with clear tape.

Then cut the arms. I made mine about 2x the width of the bar and rounded of the corners.

Next, cut the ears. These can be whatever size you want as well. Mine were about the width of the bar. Glue those on back of the bar and add the eyes and nose. You can see we used the purple glue sticks :)

Next, using your pencil first... draw on the whiskers and mouth. Then, when you are happy with placement, use the sharpie.

Using a pencil, draw two hearts on your paint swatches and cut out. Glue on the bunnies at about the halfway point.

Glue the arms on the back side of the bar, wrap them around the bar and glue to the heart. Add a personal note and you're done!

Valentine's Day DIY for Preschoolers -printable

If you're not already on Pinterest, you MUST go check it out. There is an unlimited amount of just amazing ideas for DIY crafts, recipes, home decor, etc. Thanks to Pinterest, I came across this great idea for making heart shaped crayons from the girls left over and broken up crayons. When you have 2 toddlers, you can only imagine how many crayons we have laying around.

This is where I got my idea:

I bought my silicone pan at Joann's a few weeks ago for 50% off. Right now, it might even be 60% off! It worked perfect.

I bought red scrapbook paper and these adorable heart shaped stickers, both on sale at Joann's as well. And if you haven't downloaded the Joann app, do it! You get the 40% coupons via your phone.

The girls had a blast helping me remove the paper and watching their "cookies" melt in the oven. The end products were beautiful colorful crayons. We cut the red paper to about 4.25" x 4.5" with a paper cutter. I made up these quick little papers with the saying and their names on it and they adhered the hearts themselves with double stick tape. We used the heart stickers to keep the white papers on.

Here are my favorite preschoolers showing off their work!

As you may or may not know, the March of Dimes is a very near and dear to our hearts, as those sweet 3 year olds you see above, were born at 2lbs 14oz and 3lbs 2oz! We donate a percent of our sales as well as raise money for our local walk every year. If you donate $5 to our cause (the minimum donation amount). I will send you a hi-res pdf of these printable personalized tags with your lil' ones name on them so you can create these at home! Just shot me an email at info@lillj.com to let me know you've donated. DONATE NOW
